FEMA administrates the NFIP. The U.S. Congress created the NFIP in 1968 to manage floodplains to mitigate future losses and to provide flood insurance to it's citizens. Prior to this it was difficult for property owners to purchase insurance for the flood peril due to the catastrophic nature of flood claims. Various insurance companies are certified through the NFIP's Write Your Own program (WYO) to offer flood insurance. We write through The Hartford Insurance Company's WYO program to provide this governement flood insurance to our customers. We've used The Hartford for twenty years and have received commendable service and claims support for our customers.
